Last year I took a stab at modeling and rigging the Aperture observation camera for my Companionship short based on Portal. At the time I just wanted it to look as much like the game as I could manage.
But since then there have been many developments and improvements to the film, and now the camera is essentially another character, so technical marvel and volunteer demigod James Crowder cleaned up my model, made a few subtle alterations to facilitate more movement and expressiveness (I really asked a lot of the poor guy), and rigged it up beyond even my own exacting specifications!
[link]I whipped up a quick test animation to check out the various features, and to see if it could be made to behave like a thinking, feeling character. I'm more than pleased with what I'm seeing here, this production is really coming along!
